VESTA Ready Meals

Recently removed from the shelves of ALL our local supermarkets.
When I asked about them I was told there was very little call for them. And that was the reply I got from them all.
I really used to like the Chow Mein and the Paella.

Yes. I would have said that they were most popular in the '70's - that's before nearly everyone had a freezer.
Vesta ready meals were great and if you were REALLY hungry you would do yourself two packets and really pig out.
They also did a beef curry flavour, something called chicken supreme (whatever that was), beef rissoto and a prawn curry.
Tried them all at some point, but my all time favourites were always Chow Mein and Paella.
Its a shame they have been removed from the supermarket shelves round my way.
Does anyone know if they can still be bought, and if so, where?

Mmmm!!!!
The best variety was Beef Chow Mein. It had the best crispy noodles.
I loved making them, you had to throw them into hot fat and they would instantly puff up and curl. I even remember the squeeks they would let out as they frazzled.

Me and 'er indoors had Paella not so long back (asked her, but she can't remember) but... that means that Asda are still doing them!!

The crispy noodles in the Chow mein were brill... happy days. I actually went out and bought a chip pan with a frying basket, just so I could make them (in my student days).

You can buy crispy noodles in Chinese supermarkets, Blue Dragon brand I think!
I have used the Wok to fry them in before now you only need an inch or two of hot oil, fish them out with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen roll.

My Dad used to stink the house out with the beef curry one. I have never known a curry to taste or smell like the Vesta ones! Having said that, they were yummy!
